Three prominent Croatian organizations have joined forces in the struggle to help renowned and upcoming authors create without the hindrances that vague copyright and related rights bring: Croatian Composers’ Society, Croatian Writers’ Association and Croatian Film Directors’ Guild, all under the patronage of State Intellectual Property Office. These organizations have initiated a campaign named “Authors make the world a better place”, aiming to resolve some of the issues in copyright and related rights law.
Many famous Croatian authors have joined the campaign, such as Zlatan Stipisic Gibonni, Sasa Antic, Goran bare, Neno Belan, Zrinko Tutic and Rajko Dumic, Predrag Martinjak and many more. They have stated that the goal of this campaign is to raise awareness, in an unconventional way, about the importance of the author and its rights. Their works truly make the world a richer and better place, and seeing they are small business entrepreneurs oftentimes their authors’ fee is their only livelihood. One author, Goran Bare, has desribed perfectly the goal in his own words: „What would the world be without Beethoven, Mozart or Bach? Or without The Beatles and Dylan? Simply put, it would not exist.“
Campaign „Authors make the world a better place“ started on the 26th of April, and this Autumn is taking the Internet by storm. Knowing that almost 99% of the music online is downloaded illegaly, Croatian Composers’ Society plans to educate the general public about the legal means of downloading music online, especially teens.
