Last week, the European Patent Office released preliminary figures concerning patent filings in 2014, and the numbers promise us a bright and interesting future! Plain packaging for cigarettes soon to be mandatory in Europe?

After the United Kingdom and Ireland, France is also considering mandatory plain packaging for cigarettes as part of a global effort to reduce the number of smokers. According to World Health Organization, France has the third-highest rate of smoking in Western Europe behind Greece and Austria, with 31 percent of adults smoking daily. That compares with 14 percent in the U.K. and 24 percent in Germany, the WHO says.

Croatian authors start a campaign to seek their rights

Three prominent Croatian organizations have joined forces in the struggle to help renowned and upcoming authors create without the hindrances that vague copyright and related rights bring: Croatian Composers’ Society, Croatian Writers’ Association and Croatian Film Directors’ Guild, all under the patronage of State Intellectual Property Office.
